The 20th Century Onyx Club is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1961 by Mrs. Ruth Gibson of Ventura, California. We are a philanthropic organization dedicated to support social welfare, charities and cultural activities in the community. A major focus of the group is to provide scholarship incentives for young people to seek higher education.
To implement these endeavors, the 20th Century Onyx Club sponsors an annual “Debutante Ball”, a cotillion at which young ladies of African-American heritage are formally presented to society. Proceeds from the Ball fund scholarships. Our 60th Annual gala affair will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the Embassy Suites Mandalay Beach Resort Hotel in Oxnard, CA.
This year, we would like to ask your assistance/sponsorship in celebrating our 60th Annual Debutante Ball. You may donate in the following ways:

Prospective Debutantes
Interested in becoming a debutante?
- 16 years old by December 5th of the year of participation.
- A junior, senior in high school or freshman in college
- Not older than 19 years of age by December 5th of the year of participation
- Must have and maintain a 2.5 GPA cumulative grade point average.
- Must not be or become a mother prior to or during the process.
- Be of African-American heritage decent
- Must satisfy an interview by the committee.

Scholarships
The 20th Century Club, Inc. awards scholarships to Ventura County graduating high school seniors of African-American decent who have demonstrated academic excellence and are enrolled in institutes of higher learning.
Support our local youth by making a donation to our scholarships.
